What Humans Do Better Than AI

We're living in an AI revolution.

AI can now write essays, create art, code, and there’s so much more to come.

There’s this growing fear that AI will take over all our jobs, and will there actually be a place for humans in the workplace anymore? I don’t think we can fully understand or anticipate the extent of the AI revolution.

It will force us to rethink how we work, what we work on, and the place of work in our lives and society.

But I don’t think we’ll be completely replaced, not just yet anyway. There are things that make us uniquely human that we will want more and more of, especially in light of this revolution.

  1. Creativity: AI can combine existing patterns in clever ways. It can make sense of large amounts of data and spot new patterns. But humans are still uniquely equipped to imagine and create things that have never existed before. We’re still uniquely equipped to dream up new possibilities that go beyond existing data sets.

  2. Emotions: While AI can recognize emotions and offer advice or strategies based on information, you need humans to actually understand, empathize and connect with emotion. We can read between the lines, sense when someone’s having a rough day or offer support and consolation. This comes down to the intuitive understanding of the human experience. That’s our superpower.

  3. Finally, collaboration: AI can process information and bring us together. But there’s a certain magic to build on each other’s ideas. The energy in a room when people are brainstorming, when people are riffing on each other’s ideas and arriving at breakthroughs, that’s uniquely human.

We still have these unique superpowers.

The problem is, most organizations still operate like the humans are the machines, the cogs in the wheel.

We’re stuck with rigid schedules, bureaucracy and process that slows us down and clunky politics that make it hard to get things done.

The question isn't whether AI will replace humans. It's how we create workplaces where humans can truly thrive, doing what we do best - imagining, connecting, and creating together. We can happily allow AI to take over the rest.

We have yet to see where the AI revolution takes us and how these will evolve, but for now, these are our unique superpowers. The future belongs to organizations that enable the robots and the humans to do what they do best.

Let’s optimize for what makes us human! Create space for innovation and creativity, allow genuine connection to flourish and bring people together thoughtfully to create new possibilities.
